Introducing myself

Beenu Bastian is a Credentialled Diabetes Educator and Clinical Nurse Specialist with specialist knowledge and experience in diabetes education, clinical management and patient-centred care. She has postgraduate qualifications in diabetes education and management and has worked within the Illawarra Shoalhaven diabetes service.

Beenu supports people living with prediabetes, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and diabetes during pregnancy. She works collaboratively with patients, families, general practitioners, endocrinologists and other members of the multidisciplinary team to help each person understand their condition and develop the practical skills and confidence needed to manage diabetes in everyday life.

Her consultations may include blood glucose monitoring education, interpretation of glucose patterns, insulin education, injection technique, hypoglycaemia prevention and management, sick-day planning, medication education, lifestyle goal setting and advice about reducing the risk of long-term diabetes-related complications. She can also assist patients to understand diabetes technology, including glucose meters and continuous glucose monitoring systems, where appropriate.

Beenu provides supportive, practical and evidence-based education tailored to each person’s health needs, lifestyle, cultural background and individual goals. She is committed to helping people feel informed and confident in making decisions about their diabetes care.
