Lina Baytieh is a clinical dietitian with over 20 years’ experience. She has worked in varied areas of nutrition and dietetics nationally and internationally, including hospital (in Australia and the UK), community (Australia and UK), outreach (Australia and UK), and private practice (Italy), having undertaken roles such as sole therapist positons (Australia and UK), locum positions (UK), and consultancy work (Italy).
Her strength is clinical dietetics in hospital and private practice. She has worked clinically in many varied nutrition and dietetics specialties although she sees herself as a generalist specialist with a focus on applied medical nutrition, nutrition through the ages, and macro- and micro-nutrient profiles in health and disease, and wound healing.
Areas of nutrition and dietetics include cardiovascular and respiratory disease, endocrinology (comprising all diabetes types, also gestational diabetes), gastroenterology, general paediatrics, aged care, renal disease, rheumatology, trauma and wound healing, general medicine, nutrition support, surgery, as well as other niche specialties such as burns, intensive care, TPN, hepatology and transplants.
Lina sees evidence-based practice as an important part of her practice, and has had ample experience in medical and dietetic research implementation and support. She also has a working knowledge of ethics and governance as pertains to research, and research and quality activities. She is a reviewer for the peer-reviewed journals “Nutrition” and “Burns”, the latter appropriate since her past specialty role was Burns Dietitian at the Burns Unit at Concord Repatriation General Hospital.
Lina is able to undertake group education sessions for common complaints that affect a salient cohort within the larger population, including talks on cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Education and counselling constitute part of her repertoire of skills, honed from undertaking roles as Dietitian Clinical Educator, ensuring the training of dietetic students, and the continuing education of dietitians.
Lina speaks Arabic and Italian fluently, in addition to English, and has a good working knowledge of nutrition and medical applications in all three languages. She taught English in Italy, and was a medical copywriter in a previous job
Lina likes to stay physically active, and runs when she gets a chance. She likes to read books in various languages, and to watch movies in the languages she knows.
